Origami is the ancient Japanese art of paper folding. It is believed that origami evolved from the practice of folding letters and other paper goods during the seventeenth century [1]. Since that time, origami has become increasingly popular in Japan and the rest of the world. Many people enjoy the challenge of learning to fold traditional and non-traditional origami creations. Obtain the appropriate paper. Traditional origami directions usually assume you are starting with a square sheet of paper, but this is not always the case. Verify what you need from the instructions for your project before beginning. You can purchase square sheets of paper from craft stores, or you can make your own square paper from any rectangular sheet.
- Origami paper will produce the best results, but it can get expensive if you're just starting out and making mistakes. When using non-origami paper, just make sure it's crisp (but not so stiff that the paper tears a little when you fold it, such as is the case with watercolor/ tissue paper).
