Diagram Instructions:

Below are detailed diagram instructions on how to fold an origami ninja shurriken. If you are confused at any point, please refer to the video above to clarify any doubts you may have.

Folding Diagrams for the Traditional Shuriken

1: Start with a square (4x4). Valley fold in half, and unfold.

2: Cut the square in half (:O), and keep both sheets.

3: Turn over one sheet. (This step is optional.)

4: Valley fold  both sheets of paper lengthwise.

5: Valley fold each half the other way, as illustrated.

6: Unfold to step 5

7: On one sheet, valley fold the bottom half to the right, essentially creating a 45 degree crease as illustrated.

8: Valley fold the top half to the left, creating a 45 degree crease, similar to how it was done in step 7. The paper should now be in an "S" shape.

9: Repeat steps 7-8 on the other sheet, BUT DO IT AS A MIRROR IMAGE: valley fold the bottom to the left, and the top to the right. This step is very important, because if folded the wrong way, the two units will not be able to interlock to create the shurriken.

10: Turn the sheets over as illustrated.

11: Valley fold the outer squares in half along 45 degree angles. There are infact two diagonals to choose from, however, choose the diagonals that bring corners closer to the centers of the sheets. This will make the sheets look even more like mirror image "S" shapes.

12: Fold the two triangles as illustrated.Folding Diagrams for the Traditional Shuriken

13: You should now have two parallelograms which are mirror images of each other. Turn one parallelogram over, so that the halves are not mirror images anymore.
One of the two sheets will have a slit in the middle, and the other half will have two flaps showing.

14: On one piece of paper, open out the flaps, so they stand up. On the other piece of paper, open out the flaps, so they point downwards.

15: Rotate one sheet 90 degrees. (This is an attempt at a 3D view, so do not get confused if your fold does not look like it.

16: Place one half on top of the other, as illustrated, with the slits facing outward.

17: Make sure that:

Both slits face outward, as shown. The flaps are rotated so that the crossed parallelograms
are the shape of the finished star. Tuck the tip of one upward-pointing flap
into one half of the upward-facing slit.

18: Tuck the tip of the other upward-pointing flap into the other half of the upward-facing slit.

19: Turn the model over.

20: Tuck another flap into the upward-facing slit.

21: Tuck the last flap into the slit.

22: Your ninja star is ready! Have fun, and don't aim directly at anyone else. Also never throw it at anyone's eye! Enjoy!
